THE COMPLETE TAXONOMIC LIST OF THE MAMMALS OF THE WORLD LISTE DES MAMMIFÈRES DU MONDE LISTE DER SÄUGETIERE DER WELT LISTA DE MAMIFEROS DEL MUNDO
This chapter lists all the mammal species of the world according to Wilson & Reeder, Smithsonian Institute Press, 1993. This list has been obtained from the Information Center for the Environment, Dept. of Environmental Science and Policy, University of California, http://ice.ucdavis.edu/mab our collaborators in the preparation of this web site. Non-english common names are from data collected by WICE and its collaborators. Common names for mammals are not complete in English and generally lacking for most other languages. A French list is now well underway but still far from complete. Spanish and Portuguese names for Latin America are usually generic local names, often covering taxonomic groups, rather than species. We are working at collecting common names in German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Anybody with name common names in ANY language, please send the to the address at the bottom of this page.
